This blog will highlight the adventures of the iPad Summer Academy Workshop in beautiful Dryden Ontario, August 20 - 22, 2013. Posts (and maybe even a few pictures) will be added a couple of times a day by Trish or Susan, the instructors. Participants and other blog visitors are welcome to comment at any time!
Here is an excellent article about introducing your students to the concept of Digital Citizenship.

A group of us immersed ourselves in a piece of Dryden culture today by visiting the nearby Egli Sheep Farm and Animal Park right after class. It was an interesting tour, although all of us (people and animals!) were pretty slow moving in the extreme heat of the late afternoon! The animals were fascinating - as you can see from the slideshow below! (All pics taken on an iPad of course!) 16 enthusiastic participants have converged in Dryden for this ETFO Summer Academy session on iPads! Teachers have come from communities as far away as 4 hours to be part of this learning adventure. We've had a great first morning - getting to know each other, exploring basic iPad features, doing an iPad scavenger hunt and generally settling in for 3 days of learning. Thanks to Anne Salter, ETFO Pres from Keewatin-Patricia, for being here today, welcoming participants and bringing treats, and to Kim Douglas, Dryden teacher and site manager for this ETFO session, for setting everything up for us and arranging such a great lunch for Day 1! Stay tuned - more news updates coming later today! Greetings!! We'd like to introduce ourselves to you before we meet f2f next week - HELLO from Trish (on the left) and Susan! This picture was taken at the Toronto Pride Festival in 2012 - we had a wonderful time volunteering at the ETFO booth and had the pleasure of meeting ETFO Pres Sam Hammond! We are both teachers in the city of Kitchener in the Waterloo Region District School Board. Kitchener is about an hour west of Toronto and is one of the 'tri-cities' along with Waterloo and Cambridge. We are a large school board with 60,000 students and 104 elementary schools, 16 high schools and 24 alternative sites. Trish is a Gr. 5 teacher at Franklin Public School and Susan is a Technology Support Teacher in I.T. Services. We are both instructors with I.T. Services and enjoy offering PD sessions for our local teachers on iPads and a variety of other technology topics. We also love to present at conferences and have been fortunate to be involved in some amazing local and provincial events! We are also both involved in our local ETFO, with positions on the Executive and on the Equity and Social Justice Committee. This is important work for us and we love to weave equity messages into all of our work ~ including iPad workshops ~ so stay tuned for that next week! We love northern Ontario and are really looking forward to visiting Dryden for the first time. We are excited to meet all of you, hear about your teaching passions and share some great ideas about using iPads for Learning! |
